The Organising Committee of “2017 Macau Open Badminton, Part of the BWF Grand Prix Gold Series" had held a Press Release to announce the relevant information on October 20, 2017 at the banquet hall of Royal Hotel.

“Macau Open Badminton” is the annual focusing international sport event in Macau.  It is also one of the BWF Grand Prix Gold Series tournament with world ranking points and total prize money of MOP$1,000,000 of this year.  Annually hosting smoothly and successfully since 2006, it is always depending on the full support of Macao SAR Government, Sports Bureau, sponsors, media, and as well as the community.  The tournament attracts more and more global spectators yearly through the international broadcasting by BWF official media partner, which helps build up an international sport branding in Macau.  With the overall increase in the exposure over the world and the branding identity of the Grand Prix Gold Series, it is not only to increase the attractiveness and value of the tournament, enhancing the development of the Grand Prix Gold Series and local badminton tournaments, but also to help promoting Macau as a world leisure city, the local tourism, cultural and economic development in Macau.

In order to enhance the high level of the competition, increase the extensive publicity of badminton, enhance the number of people participating in badminton globally, Badminton World Federation will make a new change on all the international tournaments starting from next year.  It is expected that through organizing this annual international badminton tournament will give the opportunity for the local residents to watch high level competitions. At the same time, it will also enhance their interest in the participation and training in badminton, enhance the level of badminton skills and encourage their habit of sport practice, in order to achieve the goal " Sport for All’".

This year, a total entry of 18 countries/regions including China, Russia, Australia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and others, with total of 291 players and more than 70 officials was received after the due date of submission on 3rd October 2017.  These players will participate in the five individual events, which are namely, Men’s and Women’s Singles, Men’s and Women’s Doubles and Mixed doubles.  The Draws was done at the BWF Headquarter Office in Malaysia on 17th October 2017.  World top ranking players, such as JIA Yifan、ZHENG Siwei (China), CHAN Peng Soon, WOON Khe Wei, HOO Vivian (Malaysia), MOMOTA Kento (Japan), Lee Hyun Il (Korea), LEE Chun Hei, CHAU Hoi Wah (Hong Kong China), have also submitted their entries.  The Referee and Deputy Referee will be officiated by BWF Referees from Netherlands and Australia.  The Macau China team will be consisting of 6 males and 4 females players that will participate in all the five events.
